Advertising comes in many forms. From Facebook ads to face-to-face recommendations, there are a million and one ways to peddle a product. This can make finding the right avenue a challenge. But, sometimes, going back to basics is the answer.
Billboards are among the oldest forms of advertising. Some people may label them archaic because of this, casting them off to the side with the telegram and Friendster. But their ability to stand the test of time (in an industry constantly changing) speaks to their effectiveness.
So, let’s break down the benefits. Why do billboards fit the bill? Because….
They offer visibility: Over in the “No Duh” category, we have “Visibility.” This is pretty much the entire point of a billboard – large and in charge, they can easily be viewed by millions of people. The high rate of visibility translates into a low CPM, which gives businesses a nice bang for their buck.
They offer flexibility: Sure, mobile billboards do indeed travel around the town advertising at will, but traditional billboards tend to stay in one place (given that they’re cemented into the ground and all). Still, they offer flexibility in the form of creativity. Billboards should be succinct, but the cleverer, the better. Imaginative, eye-opening, and visually-appealing displays intrigue customers and drive them your way.
They allow for strategy: In real estate, it’s all about location. This is advertising’s jam as well. Choosing the location of a billboard allows you to reach certain target audiences. You can choose a location that has the most impact, in densely-populated areas with tons of traffic. If you’re after a particular demographic, a billboard allows you to choose a location that has a higher population of that demographic.
They offer 24-hour advertising: Sure, in the olden days of the 1990s, billboards could often be hard to see at night. At best, they were dimly lit. Enter the world of digital advertising and billboards market 24 hours a day. Consumership doesn’t sleep, advertising can’t either.
