The city of Atlanta is a happening town (and, by town, we mean major metropolis). Home to nearly half a million people, it serves as the economic and cultural epi-center of Georgia. It also has the busiest airport in the nation. And it’s made for outdoor advertising, out of home media, and billboards.
So, why is this? One of the biggest reasons is that it has so many things to do. In fact, there is such a surplus of activity the slogan could very well be: “Atlanta, if you’re bored, you’re doing it wrong.”
It’s a hodgepodge of people, southern culture mixed with quirkiness mixed with cosmopolitan mixed with business all molding together on the city streets. And it has things that other cities don’t, including:
A permanent arts presence: Atlanta features permanent companies for all the major performing arts. This includes opera, ballet, orchestra, and theater. It also plays host, quite often, to touring Broadway plays. And the street art is well known for being some of the best in the country.
Music to your ears: Of course, Atlanta is also a major player in the music industry, having helped develop various genres over the years. Country, pop rock, southern rock, R&B, Indie Rock, rap, and the Blues – you’ll find it all here.
A tapestry of tourism: Atlanta is a coveted city for out of towners because of the uniqueness in what it offers. People come to see Martin Luther King Jr.’s childhood home, the Georgia Aquarium, the World of Coca-Cola, the College Football Hall of Fame, the National Center for Civil and Human Rights, the Atlanta Botanical Gardens, Zoo Atlanta, and the Kendeda Canopy Walk. The food is world famous too.
Sports: A rarity among major cities, Atlanta is home to four major sports teams, including the Atlanta Braves, the Atlanta Hawks, the Atlanta Falcons, and the Atlanta United FC (sorry hockey fans, you’ll always have Canada). In addition to professional sports, Atlanta has a soaring parks and rec presence with a focus on outdoor activities.
What does this mean for advertisers? It means that Atlanta should be at the top of your to-do list.
