Colorado in the summer is an appealing place for those of us who live here. We dust off our hiking boots and put away our eczema cream as the warm weather welcomes us. But, while the great outdoors are indeed delightful, some of the most exciting summer events take place inside.
The Denver Pop-Con is one of these events: It’s coming to the Colorado Convention Center May 31 to June 2.
Denver Pop-Con is billed as a “3-day, family-friendly pop culture fan extravaganza, featuring the best in pop culture entertainment.” It is put on by the Pop Culture Classroom, a non-profit dedicated to learning, literacy, diversity, and building community.

Denver Pop-Con features panels, seminars, and exhibitions dedicated to comic books, anime, manga, cosplay, horror and science fiction, webcomics, movies, television, literature, and games (video and table). On average, more than 100,000 people attend.
This year’s convention will host celebrities such as Benedict Wong, Cary Elwes (cue “Men in Tights” song), Cooper Andrews, and Christopher Lloyd. Some of the platforms include resources for women filmmakers, a crash course on making your own film, a lesson on building a narrative through cartooning, and a discussion on children’s books your kids should be reading.
