Super Bowl Advertising is Expensive

The NFL’s Super Bowl is television’s marquee event and brands/marketers continue to spend millions of dollars for a Super Bowl ad spot. Why? According to Nielsen, the 2017 Super Bowl (Super Bowl LI) had approximately 112 million people watching the big game, which was the single largest telecast. With declining television ratings, the Super Bowl is an excellent way for advertisers to reach the largest viewing audience possible in one sitting. In comparison, the highest television viewership of 2017 for a non-sports event was The Oscars with approximately 34 million viewers. Super Bowl advertising increases brand popularity and the commercials themselves have become a huge attraction for viewers with the best spots being water cooler chatter for weeks afterward. Brands have started even teasing their spots to create conversation about the brand even before their commercial airs during the big event.

How Much has the Super Bowl Generated?

According to Ad Age Datacenter’s estimate; marketers have spent a total of $5.4 BILLION advertising dollars in the game’s first 52 years with ads for a :30 second spot topping out at 5 million in 2017.

Super Bowl LIII will be held February 3, 2019 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, GA – home of the Atlanta Falcons. If you’re looking to capture audience share around the big game, we can help.
